Let us tell you about the different open-air activities you can do around Chenonceaux and choose the one that suits you best.
Discovering our beautiful valley by hiking is a very good way to enjoy the landscapes and the serenity of our region. Go for a hike on one of the various (foot paths around Chenonceaux): you can choose a path depending on the length and level, going from 7 to 24km. All the trails are well-marked and you’ll encounter monuments, some being very-well known, on your way! These walks will relax you as you’ll cross nature, green spaces and sometimes wildlife. Find the one that fits your desires between the ones that exist on our territory.
You can download several hiking paths on our website or go and get a map at the tourist office, it is open all year round.
Do you enjoy biking? Do you like discovering new landscapes, going out in nature and taking a breath of fresh air? You can go to Chenonceau, Amboise or Montpoupon on your bike thanks to the 7 cycling routes around Chenonceaux! From Chenonceaux, you’ll also be able to follow the Loire à Vélo, to go to Tours or the Indre à Vélo for example. These rides will make you calm as you’ll cross the forest and the fields, and follow paths along the rivers Loire, Cher or Indre.
Cycling routes in the Valley of the Cher are adapted to everyone and they are a great way to discover our region, whether you are staying a couple days or a week! Don’t forget to make a stop at the château de Chenonceau but also in a restaurant or a vineyard to try local culinary specialities.
If you are not travelling or do not own a bike, you can easily rent one in the area. Bike rental companies can also deliver your bikes to your accommodation.
Alambike shop : Situated in Bléré (7.5 km).
You can buy, rent or repair a bike and you’ll always find what you’re looking for: there are adult and children bikes, but also bikes with electric assistance and many accessories. They deliver bikes 15km around Bléré.
Canoë “Cher à vélo” : Situated in Civray-de-Touraine (1.5 km)
You can rent regular bikes but also tandems and bikes with electric assistance, and children seats or other accessories.
Loire Valley Cycling : Situated in Civray-de-Touraine (1.5 km)
You can rent regular bikes with a repair kit and an anti-theft device. They deliver bikes 20 km away from Chenonceaux maximum.
On the water
In the Valley of the Cher you’ll encounter calm and pleasant places around water that represent our territory: in a canoe or a kayak on the River Cher, or even in one of the many swimming pools around Chenonceaux, or on a relaxing cruise on a gabare. You’ll definitely find what suits you best!
Canoë Company Cher : On the River Cher, under the château de Chenonceau, come and discover the territory on the water with a tour in canoe. Tours go from one hour to more than five hours, it’s even possible to leave for several days. You can also combine biking and sailing thanks to an offer!
Yachting Club Montrichard : Navigate the Cher or the Loire for strolls going from one hour to two days. Go down the Cher to pass below the arches of the castle of Chenonceau and admire it from another angle.
Aventure canoë : Navigate on the River Cher or on the Sauldre and discover the ecosystem of the Valley of the Cher.
Kayak Family : Have you ever dreamed of a stroll with your family on the River Cher ? Kayak Family proposes you tours on the Cher accessible from the age of six!
You can also enjoy the river while being on a boat!
The Valchantray is a traditional boat, you can hop on for a day-trip on board! Follow the flow of the river while listening to wildlife!
Or you could go on a gabare, another traditional boat for a 50-minute commented cruise where you’ll pass under the arches of the château de Chenonceau!
